But the atmosphere is charged. Just driving around you can feel something in the air. The Washington mall yesterday had several hundred thousand people in it for a celebration concert. Amazing. People are all looking so forward to the new presidency. Maybe because the past one was so tumultuous as much as the fact that this is the first African-American president. Some things Bush had to deal with were just unfortunate - like 9/11. Others were arguably not. People just want change, Obama is that and the air is charged here. I'm sure Washington is used to demonstrations and political movements. I grew up in nearby Delaware and I saw a few back in the heady days. This isn't nearly that way. But it has some of that feel. Minus the long hair ty-dyes, microbusses and "interesting smell" in the air. I know my son can't relate to the past, but I hope he remembers everything about this trip. Like it or not, this is the most historic Inauguration in our recent history. For him to be a part of it is something I'm immensely proud of. There is no snow on the ground here. Being from New England I miss the white covering that hides the bleakness. Snow is predicted here today and in fact it has just started. But not much to it really. If there were an inch or so on the ground it would make things look a lot nicer for the Inauguration tomorrow. Guess we'll have to wait and see. _Tom The sky is grey and gloomy this morning. If you're Melissa Lever, you enter the Rockingham County 4H Horse Show, of course! At the end of her 38 Hour journey back from Beijing, I (Dad) picked her up at the LHS parking lot at 10:00 AM Saturday June 28 and brought her directly to the Deerfield Fairgrounds, just as her horse Bella arrived from the barn. The pair had an hour to get re-acquainted and prepare, then it was straight off to fitting and showing (ground manners). Then she competed in Judging (rating horses on their form & fitness), followed by Quiz. After a quick spaghetti and meatballs dinner it was straight off to bed in a nice cozy tent! Sunday morning the pair competed in Hunt Seat Equitation (rider skill) and Hunt Seat Pleasure (horse rideability). “How did she do?”, you might ask.
